That Time When Women Stopped Coding
1) Personal computer became normalized in homes.
2) Families in the 1990s were more likely to buy personal computers for boys, even when there were girls who were interseted in computers. This trend then translated to college professors increasingly assumed the demographic was male orientented. With the early start of using computers at an early age, the male demographic had an advantage of an early start.
Why diversity matters
1) Diversity efforts are most successful when they’re driven by a commitment from company leaders.
2) Diverse companies perform better because 1) they’re smart and more creative because there are more diverse viewpoints to solve the problem, 2) they perform better, 3) they tap into a pool of talent not used by non-diverse companies 4) and the companies serve a wider diverse audience.
3) A diverse company could address a specific need from a particular demographic that would not have been address or recognized by a non-diverse company.
